Distribution, Conservation Genetics and Community Monitoring of the Endangered Volcano Rabbit (Romerolagus diazi)

To continue the research and conservation of the volcano rabbit in this 1st Booster Grant we will develop a couple conservation strategies and investigate a threat to preservation of its habitat.

We will promote environmental education and awareness among children in communities cohabiting with the volcano rabbit and we will implement a novel regional monitoring with the collaboration of a brigade and community volunteers. We will also investigate the effect of afforestation on the habitat use of the volcano rabbit and, in general, on the biodiversity of the grasslands where it distributed in central México.
