This project aims to help people in Khanh Hoa gain more understanding of some important marine ecosystems such as coral reef, seagrass and mangrove.

The marine natural resource of Vietnam, in general, and Khanh Hoa province in particularly have been decreasing rapidly. There are many marine ecosystems such as coral reef, mangrove, seagrass being destroyed for living purpose of local communities. One of the main reasons for this disaster is the low level of awareness of the fishermen and communities on long term benefits of those ecosystems. Consequently, increasing the awareness of communities on natural resource is necessary and urgent.

None

By now there are some marine protected areas (MPAs) established in Vietnam such as Hon Mun, Ran Trao, Cu Lao Cham. The local communities of those MPAs have recognized that the reduction of fish resource is caused by over-fishing and the use of destructive fishing gears such as dynamite and poison.

Aims of the project are to help people in Khanh Hoa gain more understanding of some important marine ecosystems such as coral reef, seagrass and mangrove. It will help people increase the knowledge on the structure of these ecosystems; the long term profits that sustainable use of those will bring back and the consequence of destroying those ecosystems.

The general survey at Van Phong bay, Khanh Hoa province will be conducted. Then the some villages will be chosen for education. The target communities are fishing villages. Methodology is based on the PRA and RRA. Questionnaires will be conducted to collect the data. The collected data will be analysed using EXCEL and SPSS software to evaluate the awareness of the target communities at Khanhhoa province. When the awareness levels have been defined, the education activities will be conducted for each people group.
