Since the modernization of the country is in rapid fold, particularly exploring the hydropower sector, conservationist and environmentalist has concern over exploitation of fresh water ecosystem. Although fresh water ecosystem service is crucial for happy and healthy society, it is hard to convince the policy makers and communities on conserving it as the benefits are more of intangible. Therefore, the scientific evidence and conservation support from the communities is needed.

In such juncture, this project on assessment of Nika Chu Freshwater Ecology under Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park through using freshwater fish diversity and their habitats as bio-indicator aims to create scientific evidence on freshwater ecosystem and gear the support from communities through creating awareness on importance of fresh water ecosystem, threats on fresh water ecosystem, impacts and consequences of exploiting freshwater ecosystem. Further, this project will bring different stakeholders together such as staff of Jigme Singye Wangchuck National Park, Territorial division, Tangsibi hydro Authority and local government of Tangsibi block. In the end, the project expect to have upper hand on conserving the freshwater ecosystem by different stakeholders. Moreover, the result of the project will be presented in various seminars to have greater impact on awareness about the freshwater ecosystem.
