Our project aims to assess the effects of different fire histories on avifauna and their interactions with fruiting plants in the capões of the Southern Pantanal. Capões are natural forest fragments that serve as refuges and nesting sites for birds. Previous studies have documented the occurrence of several bird species in the Pantanal wetlands, including some that are threatened.

The study will be conducted in 18 capões with varying fire histories over a period of 24 months. We aim to identify bird communities and trophic guilds, analyse the structure of bird-fruit interaction networks, and assess the functional and phylogenetic diversity of these interaction partners. Our results will support conservation strategies for threatened species and the maintenance of ecosystem services.
