The major goal of this project is to investigate the impact of forest ecosystem management and loss on cavity-nesters along an altitudinal gradient through the subtropical montane cloud forest of Northwestern Argentina (Yungas). Yungas forests are being lost at an alarming rate.
The project will focus on cavity-nesting birds, a group that is especially likely to be sensitive to forest changes. This work will allow us to meet our ultimate goal, proposing management guidelines that will allow to develop a sustainable timber harvesting by local people and industries. These management guidelines will be provided to governmental and non-governmental agencies.
