The traditional system of forest management around villages by communities in the Uttaranchal state of India has over a period of time withered away due to bureaucracy, a decreasing interest in community management and the lack of knowledge about rights and responsibilities.
This project aims to motivate people and facilitate capacity building in a selected Community Forest. The project will facilitate stakeholders including the forest department to identify and declare a biodiversity rich part of the community forest as a community conservation reserve.
