This community-initiated project is concentrating on three selected sacred forests, generally located in Traa, Oforikrom and Techiman all within the Ghana’s transitional zone. These forests are selected because of their unique ecological, socio-cultural and geological features. The project will inventory biological resources and document medicinal plants, rare and endangered species. Additionally, indigenous conservation knowledge will be documented, and sustainable harvesting of the forest resources will be encouraged. Furthermore, local conservation group will be encouraged to promote conservation. The project output is to provide a platform to develop partnerships and encourage state policy for the conservation of biodiversity and preservation of indigenous cultural heritage in Ghana.
