This project is a research project to figure out the economic, social and cultural aspects by the willingness to pay (WTP) in order to get an improvement of management evaluation. It also goes parallel to the strategy of conflict resolution of man-Tiger conflict based on proposing the potential funding mechanism.

This project would conduct the survey that we can see the result whether Indonesian are willing to pay for Tiger conservation or not, to access awareness and attitudes toward Tiger conservation, to recommend potential funding mechanism from WTP that could be sustain for the conservation action, and to assess the situation of man-tiger conflict and propose for strategy alternative resolution in man-tiger conflict.

The population of Sumatran tiger has been decreasing extremely. It is facing some threats and living fragmented and conflicting with the human. In order to develop the conservation action, it would need an economic valuation to figure out the potential financial solution to solve the problem which is considering economic social and cultural aspects. This Economic valuation would figure out the local knowledge about the existence value of Sumatran Tiger, attitude of the people on conserving Tiger and also find out the funding mechanism that would sustain and appropriate with the Sumatran Tiger status nowadays. This project also would lead to the transfer knowledge activity and raising the awareness of people toward Sumatran Tiger.

The activities of the project will divide into 3 sections in each location with considering the criteria distance to National Park and Location (village, town, and city).

First is constructing the questionnaire. Then it needs some discussion with NP manager or key informant to decide the conceptual model of questionnaire because it is very important. Organizing the focus group discussion (FGD) with related persons and discussions with national park managers, forest rangers and some other key informants are to obtain a feasible Sumatran Tiger conservation program and its scenario toward the Willingness to pay. Then to determine the questionnaire would be consisted of main point from each objective and aims.

Secondly several pre-test survey in study site randomly. The field work will start with pre-test surveys that conduct in the study site in order to determine the bid level and to test the questionnaire and also identify potential problems. The survey will conduct as training and also to identify the problem and predict the timing management for survey and interview activities.

After all, it will be continued to do data collection by do the survey and interview with respondent. The data collection will be conducted by face-to-face survey and open-end interview model. The total of questionnaire would have 300 respondents including local people and the people who live surround the National Park. The area has been recognized and occupied by Sumatran Tiger would be the priority in order to figure out the scenario of strategy for decline man-tiger conflict.

In this research activity project also would train local enumerators. We encourage local people to have brainstorming as well in order to the raising of awareness of people about Sumatran Tiger Conservation
