These include huge loss of habitat for wildlife through sustained armed conflict, human encroachment and natural droughts; near-extinction of local fauna like the Gazelle and other types of antelope; desertification and deforestation as a result of massive charcoal processing; overgrazing and unregulated development.

The project will highlight these problems and aspire to raise local community education and awareness about issues affecting them and their socio-economic lifestyles through community leaders meetings, cultural events, mosque congregations, schools and the via the local media where possible. An essential component of the project will be the monitoring and research of existing wildlife (particularly Thompson’s Gazelle) in that particular area.
