Over the past 2 years, we have partnered with 04 different communities in the Kumbo Watershed to support the restoration of degraded community water catchments and to promote best agroforestry practices among small scale farmers. Over these years we have established community tree nurseries and produced over 13,000 tree seedlings of varied species and planted some 11,000 in an estimated surface area of 35ha. Additionally, over 200 household farmers have been trained on different agroforestry systems and conservation agricultural practices through the setting up of community agroforestry demonstration plots.

One of the major setbacks the project has suffered over these years has been the limited supply of agroforestry seeds to meet farmer’s needs in soil improvement, erosion control, fodder improvement and live fencing. The projects have been depending so much on seeds provided by the New Forests Project based in the USA. Sometimes these seeds arrive very late and in most cases, have also lost viability and difficult to germinate. The 12 months project seek to bridge this gab by establishing a community agroforestry seed bank where seeds shall be produced locally and distribute to farmers. Furthermore, the project shall promote honey value chain development among small scale farmers already trained during the previous project in order to improve their livelihoods while simultaneously promoting the restoration of the degraded watershed.
