Preserving the Last Remaining Populations of Javan Endemic Damselfly (Rhinagrion tricolor) in Nusakambangan Island

This project is the second phase of an ongoing conservation initiative focused on Rhinagrion tricolor, a forest-dependent damselfly associated with shaded stream habitats in intact primary forests. Building on earlier findings, the project aims to translate research into conservation action while updating population data and strengthening long-term conservation tools.

The project has three main objectives. First, it will implement conservation actions by organising discussions with key stakeholders, including government agencies, researchers, conservation practitioners, the private sector, and local communities, to identify threats and develop practical action plans for habitat protection. Second, the project will conduct a reassessment of Rhinagrion tricolor populations on Nusakambangan Island and potential sites on the Java mainland to update distribution data and identify priority conservation areas. Third, a field guide, Dragonflies of Nusakambangan Island, will be developed as a long-term educational and conservation resource.

Together, these activities aim to protect Rhinagrion tricolor habitats, map current populations, and support lasting conservation impacts for stakeholders, schools, and conservation institutions.
