Our project, Artificial Water Reservoirs as Essential Habitats for Tetrapods, focuses on the biodiversity and habitat quality of these man-made ecosystems. The main aim of this research is to update the outdated ‘Territorial Strategy of Shijak’ and highlight the ecological importance of artificial water reservoirs, which are often overlooked despite their role in supporting various species. Another key part of the project involves engaging local communities and stakeholders through meetings to address human-environment conflicts and promote sustainable management of reservoirs.

The study is based on field monitoring using different methods for different groups of tetrapods, including birdwatching, audio recording and trap cameras to document the presence of key species. To raise awareness, the project encompasses educational activities such as social media campaigns and, as the last product, the compilation of a guide on how to incorporate biodiversity considerations into territorial planning. This guide will be shared with policymakers to encourage long-term conservation strategies.
