Salmo letnica, an endemic trout of Lake Ohrid, appears, based on our preliminary results, to have established a self-sustaining population in the Lisina Reservoir (southeastern Serbia) after its introduction in the 1980s. This is very rare, as other introductions have largely failed.

Poor management drove this once-abundant species in Ohrid into endangerment, according to IUCN criteria. In case of further deterioration of its status, S. letnica from Lisina could serve as a back-up for the revitalisation of the Ohrid population. This project aims to evaluate the suitability of the Lisina population for such translocations by analysing its genetic structure and ecology.
