The human population of 80,000 in the core area put so much pressure on the little natural resources (fuel wood and wild animals). Urbanization also has an adverse impact on the sanctuary. These people living close to the sanctuary convert ecological habitats into farms. The farming activities end up polluting the water reservoir through chemical pollution. They also indiscriminately kill wildlife species.

The environments in Owhim, Owabi, Bokankye and Esaase communities are undergoing urbanization. The four communities solicit help from the management of the Wildlife Division to conserve the water reservoir and the only sanctuary in the area to prevent it from being cleared for fuel wood and eventually residential purposes.

This project if facilitated with funds from you aims at planting indigenous woodlot along the boundary of the sanctuary and provide alternative livelihood programmes for the people within the communities mentioned above. Oranges and grafted mangoes will be planted in those communities for their utilization. Some community members will be trained in snail, grasscutter and mushrooms farming.

This will reduce the pressure on the natural resources in the sanctuary.
