Survival of Amherstia nobilis in the monastery area.

The Pride Of Burma (Amherstia nobilis in the Fabaceae) is a tropical tree with exceptionally beautiful flowers (it is also known as the Orchid Tree, Tree Of Heaven, Queen Of Flowing tree, Lady Amherst's Pheasant). It is native to Myanmar. Its name in Burmese is "Thawka-Gyi". This species is very useful not only for ornamental section but also for some fauna's nesting sites such as ant, bee, bat, bird and so on. Moreover, this evergreen tree will provide a good shade for many livings.

To date, Pride of Burma is very rare in the wild tropical forests of Myanmar and has only been collected in native habitat a few times. Moreover, most people in Myanmar, knowledge and concerns about Amherstia nobilis are still low and even unnoticed. Hence, without any conservation and public extension on this species, it will be disappeared in their native environment, forever. Therefore, we have to implement this project as we inherit the world from the previous generation and we should pass to the next no less than what we received. In fact, Amherstia nobilis is also important for life on Earth and is one of the pillars of nature development.

To obtaining the above aims, the following methods and activities will be conducted during the project's period (twelve months):

A).In the first three months, field survey of the trees will be carried out around the areas of Hlawga National Park. Besides, establishment of nursery will be conducted during this period.

B).In the second part (it will take 5 months), facts about Amherstia nobilis will be prepared and distributed to local community and popular weekly journals which have more than half million readers; some of readers are live in the habitats of Queen of Flowing Tree. On the other hand, our team will educate the local community about Amherstia nobilis conservation by public extension methods. Nursery caring and practical demonstration on field planting will also be conducted.

C).In the remaining months, planting of the young plants mainly around the villages near the Hlawga National Park will be done. Besides, the young plants will also be planted in other public places such as basic education schools, monasteries, and high-way road. Our team will check the planting sites regularly, and further management and protection of the plant will be carried out.

And then, we will conduct the above section (B) whenever feasible.
