The aim of the survey is to study globally threatened and near-threatened hornbills in the tropical rainforest of Belum and Temenggor, both designated as Important Bird Areas in Peninsular Malaysia and to raise awareness of the need to conserve them.
Four key objectives have been established, namely:
2.To identify their possible roosting, feeding and nesting grounds;
3.To identify and assess their potential and current threats;
4.To conduct conservation awareness programmes amongst local communities, relevant government agencies, logging companies and schoolchildren about the importance hornbills and habitat protection.
