Ifotaka, Madagascar: Dialogue for Community Forest Management
Project Ifotaka is a conservation initiative in Ifotaka, southern Madagascar, working in the unprotected spiny forest. The area has been identified as a priority because of its value in terms of biodiversity / cultural tradition and for its potential for conservation action. Work is conducted in three principal areas - research, education and dialogue with the local communities.
The aim is firstly to begin dialogue with local communities in the Ifotaka area in order to aid them in developing their vision for the future management of the forest. Secondly this work will give recent graduates of the University of Tulear an opportunity to expand their practical conservation experience.
