Protection of amphibians, reptiles and birds in urban wetlands, Budapest.

None

Water-influenced habitats are crucial in Hungarian nature conservation. Due to water regulation and the other things during the last 150 years, the majority of these wetlands have disappeared or been seriously degraded. Hungary’s most vulnerable wetlands now have strict regulations but urban habitats and wildlife are often neglected or ignored.

The aim of this project is to enhance both conservation activity and public awareness of urban wetlands wildlife in Budapest. The project focuses on vertebrate fauna, especially amphibians, reptiles and birds. The team will do species inventories, assessment of threat factors, action plans for conservation and some proposals for protection. The project will be co-ordinated by experts as well as volunteers organised by Birdlife Hungary.
