This project looks at using utilising low tech coral transplanting methods to accelerate the recovery of coral reefs and fisheries resources in the degraded coral reef sites.

None

The coral reefs in Ha Long bay have been suffered from several damages such as the coral bleaching event that dominated in the year of 1998 and other destructive fishing practices. The changing in the coral community structure significantly shows out by the dominated branching coral to the massive coral, rubble beds and covering by marine algae with the reduction in fish stock and density of invertebrate species (Yet 1998, Ngai 2002).

The objective of this project focus on:

(1) Utilising low tech coral transplanting methods to accelerate the recovery of coral reefs and fisheries resources in the degraded coral reef sites;

(2) Involvement and to raise awareness of the local fishing communities and other reef users for coral restoration tasks;

(3) Young scientists will be trained via research.
