Evaluation and Promotion of Endemic Plant Life Biodiversity of Sarajevo Region through Research Excursions

This investigation will elucidate the present number of endemic and endangered taxa as well as current conditions of their populations. This should be crucial for preparing the proposal to the local government for protection of these species and their habitats

Mountain Ozren is one of favorite excursion sites for Sarajevo citizens. At the same time, this mountain represents a habitat for important number of species that include significant percentage of those considered endemic and endangered. Anthropogenic impact on this region is overwhelming and lack of any kind of protection and management puts extensive pressure on the nature. Therefore, endemic and endangered species are under continuous risk of extinction in particular. Establishment of the seed bank of endemic and endangered species of Mt. Ozren would have a long term impact on endemic gene pool conservation in this area.
