Conservation of forest spring Sphagnum bogs in the Vitosha Mountains, Bulgaria.

The aim of the project is to recommend conservation measures for the spring sphagnum bogs in spruce forests on the Vitosha Mountain and raise visitor’s awareness on their environmental role and value.

Activities include the study of:

* Mosses and higher plants in the sphagnum bogs, and comparing the current situation with that in 1956; construction of Forest Bogs Corners on two selected bogs in the Park;

* Media coverage of the opening; publishing an information brochure on forest bogs;

* Mapping the forest sphagnum bogs habitats and entering the data on the GIS system of the Vitosha Nature Park. It will also include sphagnum bogs in the guided tours organised by the Park.
