The aim is to have a living laboratory for local scientists and community members to learn the benefits of Bio-diverse mangrove habitats and promote the sustainable harvesting of mangrove products.

The objective is to process marketable products from Mangrove species such as Bruguiera sp, Avicennia sp., Aegialitis sp.and Avicennia sp. to be the variety of “Thai Desserts” menu. One product to be marketed is from Bruguiera sp. is “Roti”, a kind of top favourite India food made of flour.

Acanthus sp. will produce the healthy tea drink or called “Mangrove Tea”.

The mixtures of 5 Mangrove species such as Acanthus sp. which has herbal property which will not irritated to human skin, Bruguiera sp ’s sheath which has sticky feature, leaves of Rhyzophra sp. which allow good smoke and flower of Pandanus sp which has healthy odour will be grinded and packed together as gum benzoin (incense). The scent from this special incense will be named “Sea Scent” which is a mosquito repellent preventing people from contracting Malaria and dengue fever.

Cerbera sp will be handcrafted as a “Sea Scent Container” and also be decorated as a “Lamp”.

Moreover the Xylocarpus sp‘s old fruit can be extracted as a dye for multipurpose use for “Tie-dyed Fabric” such as T-shirt, handkerchief, tablecloth and etc. which we can also screen the Rufford logo on the T-shirt.

Woven shopping bags can be made from weaving parts of the leaf of Nypa sp. and used instead of plastic bags. This special bag can be called “Palm Bag” with the Rufford logo.

Thus will help a community group interested in developing mangrove products that are sustainable harvested obtain use rights to harvest the raw materials from the National Park or National Mangrove forest department. This helps ensure to prevent the cause of over-exploitation. The allocation of exclusive use rights to community groups to harvest raw materials for products being promoted. Feasibility study of market potential and profitability. Training community groups in developing mangrove products and marketing them.
