Training.

This project responds to recommendations from a joint training workshop conducted by a project team consisting of facilitators from the CDP, EFA and the SDI in the proposed Cestos-Senkwehn National Park, May of 2008. The training workshop aimed to provide adequate teacher education on how-to deliver environmental education to students of seven primary schools in the region.

In it’s first year, this project aims to further strengthen the capacity of environmental clubs established in seven primary schools. It’s overall goal is to improve the quality of environmental education in primary schools and communities within the region. Professional Trainers from the EFA will train environmental club members in how-to get involve into environmentally friendly activities including the introduction of agro-forestry in their communities. The project will stimulate learning on biodiversity conservation into primary schools in the short and medium-term.

This project will pave the way for the infusion of environmental learning in local schools of all protected forest reserves and national parks. This will guide and build local school children’s support to nature conservation or a more sustainable management of nature in the short, medium and long-terms.

The lessons learned from this project will have a long-term significance for the conservation at the local, national and international levels.

To achieve this project’s aim, the CDP will:

Activity 1: organize and facilitate seven training workshops on how-to get involve into environmentally friendly activities for teachers and students in seven environmental clubs; the workshops will be conducted by experienced trainers from the EFA and facilitators from the CDP and the regional forester in the area. These training workshops will provide forums for these children to discuss and give them the opportunity to learn about what they too can do to help their communities by carrying out environmentally friendly activities.

Activity 2: purchase and distribute tools, seeds and other materials to each school environmental club in the region; the project team will make available tools, seeds and other materials necessary to carrying out activity one. This will greatly boost their activities and give some form of motivation to the members of these nature clubs. Most of the seeds will be made available by the Environmental Foundation for Africa (EFA).

Activity 3: facilitate a one-day follow-up refresher workshop in each primary school in the region; this follow-up refresher and evaluation session will be organized to bring together the beneficiaries of this training.
