There is a conflict between local people and park guards caused honey harvesting in forest and fire in forest resulting from traditional honey harvesting. Last year (2009) more than 50 hectors of forest have been burned by people while harvesting honey and the government estimated the lost at a value of 50,000,000 rwf =50,000 pounds.

Also, local people prioritised beekeeping as major source in conservation of natural forest of volcanoes national park and improving the liver hoods of surrounding people by introducing the modern beehives that produced more honey and using modern materiel in honey harvesting which not cause fire in forest.
