The Lesser Flamingo is currently classified by IUCN as near-threatened. It is a species which depends on a very definite and fragile habitat - large alkaline and saline lakes, and estuaries. Changes in climate, industrial activity, or habitat have a serious impact on its breeding success rate. This project will focus on the birds of Lake Bogoria, investigating their population dynamics and behaviour, comparing dry and wet season data. If it appears that the high mortality rates may be occurring as a result of human impact, measures to mitigate such impacts will be proposed.
