The snow leopard is a charismatic large carnivore and one of the apex predators of the Trans-Himalayas. They share their habitat in Ladakh Trans-Himalayas with several other endangered species and have been facing various ecological and anthropogenic threats all through its range. The proposed project aims for conservation of snow leopard as a ‘Flagship’ as well as ‘Umbrella’ species of the highly fragile Trans-Himalayan ecosystem of Ladakh (India).
The group proposes to study snow leopard and their prey population, looking at native people’s attitudes toward snow leopard conservation. Lastly the project plans to conduct a workshop for capacity building in field staff and NGO’s of Ladakh.
