Conservation of Forest Reserves in Uganda through sustainable forestry, education and energy saving techniques.

The aim of the project is to conserve the three totally encroached forest reserves in Mpigi district, Uganda, at the same time empowering local people economically to reduce their current over-dependence on these forests as the main source of livelihood. The project will tackle issues of afforestation, environmental education, economic empowerment, poverty as well as general community welfare. The team hopes to establish a sustainable programme which will focus on ceasing the funding still continue to operate.

Forest protection will be done through the establishment of forestry friendly projects such as bee keeping, commercial crop planting, environmental education and crafts. Over five million trees will be planted, for afforestation and commercial purposes. There will be a source of fuel wood, charcoal and other natural products including food and traditional drugs. The hope is for the participating families’ income levels to rise and over-dependence on forests to become a thing of the past.
