Our target area is prone to Natural calamities and the normal life situation is disturbed due to endemic natural disasters. Our area was with thick Mangrove vegetation in early 1990s and the situation has changed to a very great extent owing to degradation of the Mangrove forests for reasons such as:

None

- Promoting Salt water aqauaculture

- Usage of mangroves as fodder for cattle

- Usage of mangroves for cooking Fuel / fire wood

- Usage of Mangroves for construction of Hutments / sheds

- Using mangroves for fencing of various structures.

As our area is with poor Mangrove vegetation SFIRD felt the need for, initially, educating the different stakeholders on the promotion, safeguarding and conservation of the Mangroves. For bringing awareness in the minds of people, it is essential to involve and educate the Women and Youth and the School going age Children. It is with this concept SFIRD requested for the support of RSG.

The present activities includes:

- Sensitization of different stakeholders through training programmes and workshops in the target area villages.

- Nursery raising and transplantation of Mangroves in coastal areas where the fresh water canals join the Seashore.

- Tree Plantation in the Coastal Villages - which serve as the buffer protection.

- Organising Competitions for the Schoolchildren and youth on environmental issues for eco-development.
