This project will build a team of local conservationists who will work to protect an important area of forest in Sulawesi.

Bogani Nani Wartabone National Park (BNWNP), Indonesia, is the single most important site for conserving Sulawesi’s Iowland forests, being a stronghold for threatened species like babirusa, anoa and maleo. The majority of the 50 species of mammals and 32 bird species from Sulawesi which are listed in the IUCN Red Book are to be found in Bogani's forests.

This project will assemble a team of local conservationists to monitor and patrol forests in BNWNP to determine wildlife population trends, define threats, and contribute information on forest characteristics and anthropogenic disturbance. Education and awareness will build local capacity through skills and information transfer, whilst multi-stakeholder collaboration with the BNWNP authorities, local NGOs, governments, universities and schools – focused on a recently established park management council – will develop a local conservation constituency.
