Saving Bats: Re-Studying and Engaging New Regulations

Two aims are: to build capacity for local people, young generation and to raise awareness of students in the community; and to investigate bats trafficking and train legislation to local government officers and own restaurants in the provincial.

Two kinds of bats Large Flying Fox, Pteropus vampyrus (Linnaeus, 1758) and Lylei Flying Fox, Pteropus lylei (Anderson, 1908) have reduced in Bat Pagoda, it's hundred number counted. In 2013, some activities enhance communities to protect bats, environment are efficiency as local people and visitors changed their awareness to protect bats as well as save Khmer culture. In 2014, thousand of bats’r counted by team from Can Tho University, the number’s slightly increasing than before, people perceive problem in community. This project aims at reducing bats trafficking; building capacity for people; training development skills for students; improving governance.

This project expects to build capacity for local people, young generation and to raise awareness of students in the community. In addition, the project aims at investigating bats trafficking and bats crime in order to cut down the situation of selling and buying bats in the market. Also, the project organizes training for local government officers and local owner restaurants about legislation's in order to understands laws, policies and documents laws about bats.

We plan to organize training workshops, do campaign activities, plant the trees, give scholarships for students, design communication documents, improve livelihood for local community, investigate bats trafficking and communicate to other stakeholders.

The project starts from August 2014 and ends next 10 months in 2015. We will promote undergraduate students to study some issues during implementing the project and we plan to do assessment, evaluation in each sessions in ten months.
