|Town/Region||Agesthiyer Hill Range|
|Date||8 Jan 2004|
A 2nd RSG Grant has been awarded to this project.
The team will continue a survey of the bat species in the Agasthiyar Hill Range, which is situated within an area of outstanding biodiversity interest in southern India. It will augment data on roosting sites, distribution, behaviour, reproduction, and population status already obtained from field studies of Salim Ali’s fruit bat (Latidens salimalii).
Conservation possibilities will be assessed throughout the Agasthiyar Hill Range and sites documented for the implementation of targeted conservation measures. The team will promote the concept of bat conservation both locally and nationally through bat awareness programmes and academic workshops.
