Protection of White Storks and Education on the Importance of Biodiversity

The project aims to provide continuous monitoring of White Storks within the Municipality of Gradiska and to conduct a bird census along the Sava River floodplains.

Bird Census - field work.

Bird Census - field work.

Since this project presents the continuance of the "Protection of White Storks and education on importance of biodiversity" - a project financed by the Rufford Small Grant, the overall objective is linked with the previous project and is identified as following: additional education of the wider public on the importance of conservation of biodiversity and the importance of protection of bird species along the Sava River floodplains.

The project aims to provide continuous monitoring of White Storks within the Municipality of Gradiska (highest population of White Storks within BiH), and to protect additional 4 nests which sit on electrical poles and present a danger for the species. In addition, the project will enable us to conduct a bird census along the Sava River floodplains, where numerous ecologists/ornithologists have noticed rare and endangered species.

They key outcomes of the project will be diverse and will present a combination of expert analysis and information gathering on bird species, with particular emphasis on Storks, protection of additional nests and development of a interactive web/mobile application in order to promote the issue of biodiversity conservation and high number of bird species among the wider public in a new and creative approach. All of these findings and data will be presented through a web/mobile application in order to disseminate the results of the project and inform the public about the bird biodiversity in the closer region.
