Our goal is to undertake critical steps to establish a wildlife corridor connecting an isolated patch of forest to the existing Berlín Private Conservation Area, in the Peruvian Region of Amazonas.

Conservamos por Naturaleza is an initiative of the Peruvian Society for Environmental Law (SPDA), one of the leading Peruvian environmental NGOs. As Conservamos por Naturaleza, our aim is to support and improve the effectiveness of citizen-led voluntary conservation and promote sustainable lifestyles. Private and community-based conservation initiatives receive very little support from the Peruvian government, despite the important role they play in bottom-up conservation. Conservamos por Naturaleza is characterized by its innovative use of media and inspiring videos of the conservation areas, backed by solid legal, financial and capacity-building strategies to aid conservation areas.

In this particular project funded by the Rufford Small Grants Programme, our goal is to undertake critical steps to establish a wildlife corridor connecting an isolated patch of forest to the existing Berlín Private Conservation Area. The parcel is home to a family of critically endangered Yellow-Tailed Woolly Monkeys. The project consists of four components:

1) establish conservation agreements with private landowners to create a corridor connecting the parcel to the larger forest.

2) Launch crowd funding campaign to fund purchase of the land parcel.

3) Test corridor reforestation approach in pilot plot within the conservation area.

4) Hold events to educate community on benefits and importance of local conservation.
