Mahseer’s as flagships for freshwater fish conservation in Western Ghats – participatory assessment of stock status and harvest levels in Chalakudy and Periyar Rivers of Kerala.

Conservation of freshwater fish resources depends on stewardship and knowledge. This project aims to conserve the threatened endemic Mahseer species of Chalakudy and Periyar rivers in the Western Ghats biodiversity hotspot in Kerala, India, by collecting population dynamics and harvest data to inform management decisions.

IDENTIFYING CRITICAL AREAS OF BOTTLENOSE DOLPHIN POPULATIONS: A COORDINATED REGIONAL CONSERVATION PROJECT.

Investigation of the International Aquarium Trade as a Pathway for the Global Dispersal of Amphibian Chytrid Fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis)

My project aims to elucidate the role of the international aquarium trade as a possible global dispersal engine for amphibian chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis). In doing so, I intend to produce results which will help slow the progression of the current global amphibian extinction crisis which is being exacerbated by this emerging infectious disease.

Enhancing Community Participation in Lake Nakuru catchment Environmental Conservation: A case of River Njoro Watershed

The project aims to empower local communities in River Njoro watershed through education and mobilization towards proper management and conservation of environmental resources. It will enhance the individual and collective understanding of environmental issues affecting the watershed and its residents, and promote positive participation in conservation at the community level by overcoming ethnic influences that have hindered their role in environmental conservation.

To reduce bycatch by finding the best way to spatially separate sea turtles from longliners and to minimize post-release mortality by applying the best handling and release protocols.

Conservation and management of small cetacean species, Tursiops truncatus and Delphinus spp. in the Gulf of California, Mexico.

The aim of this project is to promote the effective conservation of small cetacean species within the Gulf of California (GC) by identifying management stocks; and to test the hypothesis that ecological complexity leads to local habitat dependence and population differentiation in these highly mobile species.
