Wetland Conservation
Welcome to forum topic - Wetland Conservation!
Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems in the world. They support enormous number of floral and faunal species, and also perform vital ecosystem functions. But they are facing immense pressure from human interference. So the challenge is how to maintain wise-use of wetland resources alongwith their conservation to ensure healthy wetland ecosystem and improved livelihood of local people.
This forum topic is intended to discuss on wetland issues - both in Nepal and abroad. Please contribute,
Thanking You,

Wetlands and Drylands - Any crucial point of interest?
Though they sound the opposites, I think there is points of interest and relationship between Wetlands and drylands. Conservation of existing wetlands could be very crucial to people living in dry lands than anybody else. Has anybody done some study on this or a related subject?
The pen against the buldozzers
A recently announced plan to construct a road in Al Hoceima,Morocco threatens abitat crucial for the survival of animal and plant species listed under the IUCN red list. The local delegation of the Ministry for Infrastructure at AlHoceima has chosen to build a section of a new land-sea route through the cliffs of Er Moud–Tara-
Youssef, which will destroy an area of high ecological interest. This project clearly infringes upon the National Policy for Coastal Protection, as well as several
international conventions that have been ratified by Morocco.
It is also against the royal decree which established the Al Hoceima National Park in 2004. The local NGO Association Azir has produced a report advocating less destructive development alternatives which are technically possible. The report has
been distributed to the Head of the Province of Al-Hoceima and
responsible national ministries.

the remote hillside basin of the Al Wahda Dam
WORLD WETLANDS DAY
In celebration of World Wetlands Day I present an article about the remote hillside basin of the Al Wahda Dam and the threats to its rich but fragile ecosystem.
abstract :
Almost unknown or impenetrable Zone of Morocco; the Atlantic side of the Rif mountains and its geographical sequence, the prérif , is certainly an incredible wealth ecosystem in terms of endemism and biodiversity .
The strong human pressure has strongly accentuated the rapid degradation of this too fragile ecosystem. The bioclimatic characteristics provides to this environment the particularity to be the real water potential of this country, "in particular because of the climatic changes" thus building the factual affluent of the of Sebou valleys.
However if this rich water potential is rather well made profitable downstream; it remains still very badly exploited upstream and thus requires a true strategy for its administration in order to ensure the sustainable development of this zone.
Sorry the article is in french , the goal of this article is to put this wetland as a ramsar zone , can you help us to carry out this mission
Best regards

World Wetlands Day takes place on 2nd February each year. It marks the date of the adoption of the Convention on Wetlands that took place in 1971 in the Iranian city of Ramsar.
Supporting wetland conservation initiative
Dear frends of AZIR NGO,
Good work you have done. Wetlands are indeed very important not only for maintaining biodiversity, but also for human populations, especially in the surrounding of drylands. And Morocco is an example.
I wish you all the best in your intention,
Aurel
