Rufford Small Grants - 10th Anniversary

In 2009, the Rufford Small Grants will have been supporting grass-roots conservation projects for 10 years. Our awards scheme is only small in name - since we began we have supported over 1,000 projects worldwide.

We would like to mark this occasion with a review of our work. We would like to hear from past RSG recipients to know how a Rufford Small Grant made a difference to your long-term conservation work. In what way did it enable your research to progress? What significant conservation findings came about as a result of your RSG project(s) that have had an impact on the conservation world? We would particularly like to hear from our early RSG recipients and know what stage their work is now and how it developed following their final report to us.

Please send a short summary together with up to three photos as jpeg attachments to sian@rufford.org by the end of June 2008. We look forward to hearing from you.

From Ideas to Action

First of all, I would like to congratulate RSGF for celebrating 10th anniversary and supporting a large section of conservationists to convert their ideas into action for nature conservation !

I obtained RSG in 2005 for a wetland education project in Nepal which serves as a key support to establish a network entitled 'Wetland Friends of Nepal (WFN)'. This network focussed on linking the individuals in wetland issues through e-forum and a small research committee. Institute of Forestry Pokhara provided working space and internet facility to make regular contacts with network members and share information on wetland issues. This network carried extensive wetland educational and awareness events among school students and local community in wetlands of Pokhara and Ghodaghodi Lake Area (the latter supported by RSG, which remained a highly successful project. With the help of second RSG and other funders, WFN has now been able to establish an office room at Pokhara, and to provide orientation training to volunteers. The role of second RSG in capacity building of WFN members is highly appreciable and it has established a network to work on wetland issues in Nepal. Thanks to RSG for this ! WFN members are now actively involved in wetland education, participatory research, community capacity building, demonstration and publication works in wetlands of Pokhara and Ghodaghodi Lake Area. In this regard, RSG's support in establishing a wetland working network in Nepal is highly successful and WFN is highly committed to deliver public support service in cost effective and efficient manner.

I again congratulate RSGF for its role in transferring ideas of nature conservationists into action in real ground. I wish successful celebration of 10th anniversary of RSGF as well.

I am pleased to inform that WFN members will join RSG's anniversary by organizing a interaction meeting to discuss on wetland issues in newly established office.

Change and Show Difference

Congratulation RSGF! for celebrating tenth anniversary with prestigious success in the sector of nature/biodiversity, human and environment conservation. Because of RSGF, I have found CHANGE and DIFFERENCE in many areas of the world that is why I appreciate the RSGF efforts and wish future success with progressive speed for creating difference.

Being a RSGF grantee, student, youth, citizen of developing country and community server, I have evaluated RSGF as successful, local/community oriented and youth conservationist encouraging foundation. If RSGF can maintain its speed, I ensure that it will achieve great success in the conservation arena.

I hope that RSGF will increase its speed to reduce the increasing chances of pollution, destruction and biodiversity loss in coming days too. It will be able to create change and make difference in real target/victim group and show itself as a demonstration of Conservation Foundation.

I like to thank my team members, local communities, students, teachers, schools, people, referees, other grantees, Community Based Organizations and all who involved directly or indirectly in rhino conservation for their incredible role. I like to remember all whose efforts helped us to make CHANGE and create DIFFERENCE which set us as successful team in the project site.

Last but not least I like to congratulate RSGF once again for Blooming

Thank you

Congratulations RSG!

Dear RSGF staff,

It is my honour, as a 2nd round grant holder of yours, to congratulate you on your 10th year anniversary.
Your work is seen all over the world. You find and support people willing to contribute to the protection of diversity and you make considerable efforts towards the sustainable development around the Globe.
I got a 1st round grant in 2006-2007 to contribute to the protection of the forest remants in the poor-forested country as Moldova is. I got the 2nd round grant (2008-2009) to develop and extend the idea of bringing together stakeholders of the two bordering countries, Moldova and Ukraine. With the help of RSGF grant we are able to make steps towards the transboundary conservation and economic development in the region.
And the forum here is also a success. I used to cooperate with many grant-making organisations from which I recieved many grants, but working with RSGF is the most unforgettable moment.

With all my best for your work,
Aurel I. Lozan
