Forest restoration

I suggest a mountain forest conservation and restoration forum. Many mountains of the world
are being depopulated and there are good opportunities for conservation. But invasion by exotic species, badly eroded soils, locally extinct species and little ecological knowledge complicate conservation and restoration decition making - not easy! As I first step I propose that collegues who join this forum comunicate ideas on how to make the forum function. My ideas: we exchange publications, conservation related freeware, information about training courses we could take, and perhaps orginaze training courses we could give. All the best! Daniel Renison

Forest remnants & tourism in poor-forested countries

Hi,

I am going to prepare and publish, within the 2nd RSG grant, a ghide-book on tourism and biodiversity in the middle Nistru river basin of the two countries, e.g. Moldova and Ukraine. It will include history, culture, biodiversity (fauna, flora), business, local authorities etc.

Patches of riverbank forests are of huge importance, particulary in such poor-forested countries as Moldova Republic is.

Species need habitats to normally live. And we need these habitats to maintain the great biodiversity and ourselves future. However, the conflict of mankind and biodiversity is, however, not in the prospect of the latter. We should help.

I think, the nature-friendly tourism might be a solution.

I am looking for someone from Ukraine, be it NGO or private, engaged in the same field, preferably a botanist and/or environmentalist/ecologist. I can offer at least co-authoriship for the ghide-book if appropriate contribution is made. A future cooperation is envisaged.

Looking forward to working with you
Regards,
Aurel

guide-book

Dear Aurel,

¿is the guide book going to be in English? If so, I offer to help by proof reading and commenting some of the chapters. I do not have time to co-author it, nor do I live anywhere near Ukraine as I am from Argentina (South America)!. All the very best wishes for your great proyect!, Daniel
