Restoration of Transcarpathian Conifers Diversity through Reintroduction of Relic Species

The aim of the project is to provide 10 national preserves in Ukrainian Carpathians with boundary signs and information boards for demarcation and scientific data display.

Typical information board.

The project provides installation of boundary signs that designate areas protected by the law, as well as informational boards that display Red Book species and other interesting details of flora and fauna for 10 national preserves of the Ukrainian Carpathins mountains. This shall prevent unintentional logging and diminish illegal deforestation, authorise forest guard personnel to impose penalties, and improve educational and conservative opportunities for scientists and eco-tourists. While the data on protected areas is often insufficient even in state registries, prior to undertaking any activity we shall conduct an scientific study to verify the presence of protected species and their natural condition. Afterwards, we report this information online and through other mass media in order to share it with state departments responsible for gathering the statistics of biologic species.

This project will utilise our wealth of experience and the knowledge of nature conservation that we have gained in previous projects and share it via mass media and the Internet to other NGOs, state bodies and enthusiasts. The project’s implementation will have a positive effect on social transformation: inspiring hundreds of people to participate in volunteer actions; uniting NGOs for a common cause; and motivating state and municipal institutions to take decisive action and come up with practical solutions. The project will be another social lever to continue the expansion of the numbers of green advocates; the project being just one more sign that their values are seen as relevant and worth working for.

The installation of boundary signs and informational boards attracts social attention to the existence of protected areas, and underlines the importance of conservation activity for future generations. As affirmed by previous years’ experience, informational propaganda activities influence visitors in protected areas. Ecology education is a powerful instrument to increase the number of ecologically aware people and to stimulate communities to head toward sustainable development as well.
