In Panama, spider monkeys suffer high cup of hunting by the indigenous people of the region, reason by which, there is a strong likelihood that this subspecies could be decreasing in number. The consideration of protection to its ecosystem will be a commitment based on this first attempt to maintain on the basis of environmental education and community activities to help people directly.

Our conservation plan is based on our presence, education and scientific study. The success of my project will be measured by the confirmation of presence/absence of this species in their original habitat by direct observation. This project is the first that will confirm the presence of this subspecies in Panama since its last taxonomic review (Kellogg and Goldman, 1944).
