Pa Phanh forest in Thanh Hoa province discovered the first time in early 2012. So far we have only known 4 threatened tree species belong to Gymnosperm (Pinus kwangtungensis, Cephabtaxus manii, Podocarpus pilgeri and Amentotaxus argotaenia). The project is the first time carry out the inventory and assessment of plant biodiversity in the area. So this project will be a very significant contribution for biodiversity not only in Thanh Hoa province but also in Vietnam. The project will focus on inventory and assessment of all vascular plant species in the area; listed all threatened plant species; mapping the area; study ecology, habitat, distribution and population of 4 gymnosperm species. We also cooperate with local authority to make a plan for conservation of this important forest area.

Through the activities of the project, we hope:

/To make the list of all vascular plant species in Pa Phanh Mountain.

/To provide a list of threatened plant species in the area.

/Mapping of distribution of threatened plant species in the area

/To provide data base of ecology, distribution, habitat, population and regeneration of 4 threatened gymnosperm species in Pa Phanh Mountain (Pinus kwangtungensis, Cephabtaxus manii, Podocarpus pilgeri and Amentotaxus argotaenia)

/To make 300 specimens and about 1000 pictures of vascular plant species in Pa Phanh Mountain. Those specimens will be stored in the herbarium of the Vietnam Forest University and use for teaching and studying by lecturers, and students.

/To increase awareness of local authority, forest rangers, local people and students on biodiversity conservation, especially in Pa Phanh forest.

/To organize one workshop on plant biodiversity of Pa Phanh Mountain will have successfully organized.

/A paper on plant biodiversity of the area will be published.

/To make recommendation for conservation of biodiversity in Pa Phanh forest, Thanh Hoa province.
