Help the Aged

The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation provided a grant of £20,000 in 2007/08.

Help the Aged has the vision of a future where older people are free from the disadvantages of poverty, isolation and neglect so they can live with dignity as valued, respected and involved members of society. Their mission is to secure and uphold the rights of disadvantaged older people in the UK and around the world. Working with them, Help the Aged researches their needs, campaigns for changes in policy and provides services to alleviate hardship today and prevent deprivation tomorrow.

The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation kindly supported the SeniorLink Bogus Caller scheme in Nottingham. This is a 24 hour telecare immediate response service, aiming to reduce the feelings of isolation and lack of confidence felt by many older people when answering the door to unwanted or unknown callers. With many older people being targeted by bogus callers or victims of burglary, this project aims to ensure that older people can remain confident in the comfort of their own home, safe in the knowledge that help, if needed, is just a phone call away - a major step towards remaining independent. Thanks to this funding, 74% of SeniorLink beneficiaries believe the service has helped them to remain independent for longer than otherwise would have been possible.

‘I feel comfortable and safe knowing that I have so many people concerned about my safety. It is like having a very large family’ - SeniorLink beneficiary.
