In 2009/10, The Rufford Foundation provided a grant of £7,500 to Animal Lifeline for Anti Poaching (ALL4AP™).

ALL4AP™ is a non-profit conservation initiative around Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe. It has been in existence for 28 months and works in conjunction with the Wildlife Conservation Research Unit (WildCRU) of the University of Oxford in and around one of the largest unfenced wildlife refuges in Southern Africa. It’s an anti-poaching project with the focus on direct action (patrolling, confiscating, arresting and informing). A database of poaching events, activity and the nature of the impact on targeted wildlife species, has been constructed. Historical data show that Anti Poaching Units accomplished a decrease in poaching of at least 70%.

The Rufford Foundation has been supporting this project right from the start in December 2007. The clothing and equipment for this team came predominantly from support provided by The Rufford Foundation in 2009 and 2010. The team is equipped with GPS, camera, laptop, scanner and VHF radios – all required to catalogue relevant observations relating to the incidence of poaching activity – as well as a projector for use in instructions and presentations to recruits, stakeholders and guests. In addition, The Rufford Foundation's support bought the team patrol clothing such as trousers, shirts, boots, sleeping bags and mosquito nets.

The Rufford Foundation's ongoing support for 2010 will be used for food for the team, maintenance and insurance for the 4 x 4 vehicle, kit, office overhead costs and immobilization drugs for snared animals.
