In 2010/11, The Rufford Foundation provided a grant of £10,000 to Prison Phoenix Trust.
Prison Phoenix Trust encourages prisoners in the development of their spiritual welfare, through the practices of meditation and yoga, working with silence and the breath. We offer personal support to prisoners and prison staff around the UK and the Republic of Ireland through teaching, workshops, correspondence, books and newsletters.
When inmates regularly practice yoga and meditation, they gradually lose a lifetime sense of separateness. They begin to acknowledge the existence of the world around them and recognise their interdependence. This enables them to begin to take responsibility for their actions and dissolve old barriers to social interaction.
