The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation provided a grant of £150,000 in 2007/08.
The Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) is a UK registered charity offering a range of awards to leading nature conservationists around the world. Through a process of references, application and interview, WFN locates and recognises some of the world’s most dynamic conservation leaders and celebrates them through Whitley Awards of up to £60,000. The Whitley Awards are presented by HRH The Princess Royal and Sir David Attenborough.
The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation is one of WFN’s major donors. In 2007, funds were distributed primarily in the form of a prestigious Whitley Award, and the Foundation also made an important contribution to covering WFN’s core costs to enable the charity to continue the work of the Whitley Awards.
The Whitley Award is both a grant to fund project work and a form of recognition to champion passionate individuals committed to long-lasting results for conservation. Winning projects are founded on good science, community involvement and pragmatism.
