Transport for field excursions and study tours, which are an integral part of training at the South African Wildlife College, is sponsored by the RMLF.

The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation came into being in August 2003 as a result of a merger between The Rufford Foundation (founded by John Hedley Laing) and The Maurice Laing Foundation (founded by Sir Maurice Laing).

The Rufford Maurice Laing Foundation is an independent grant-making trust. We are a member of the Association of Charitable Foundations and our charity registration number is 326163.

In 2007/08 the Trustees’ grant-making priorities continued to focus on four main areas of giving:

65% to support nature conservation, the environment and sustainable development projects in developing countries (68% in 2007).

14% to support health and medicine primarily in two areas: HIV and AIDS projects in the developing world; and scientific research into efficacy of complementary health treatments and their integration into general medicine (19% in 2007).

13% to support sustainable development work to relieve poverty overseas (6% in 2007).

8% to support social welfare initiatives in the UK (7% in 2007).

Should you be considering making an application to the Foundation under any of these headings, please first of all review the relevant areas of the site and in particular the section 'How to Apply'.
